Actions Speak Louder Than Words

I was conscripted to work overnight Saturday at Youth House #2. So, I went to work at 11:00 p.m., and got off at 8:00 a.m. this morning. Even though it is an overnight shift, employees are prohibited from sleeping, and if they are caught sleeping, can be terminated. We have to make bed checks at a minimum of once an hour. That involves carrying a flashlight and shining it on the kids to ensure they are actually in their beds and haven’t eloped. This is a practice that has been going on for many years. It seems rather dumb to me, because we have alarms on all the doors and windows. The alarm will sound when a window or door is opened, and that would alert staff that someone was leaving the premises. But I digress. The main reason I wanted to post was to say that early this morning, my co-worker had the TV tuned to a station with religious programming. The sound was down so as not to wake the kids. I had never seen the man who was preaching. Being that I couldn’t actually hear what he was saying, I was struck by his mannerisms. I remember saying to my co-worker, that if you didn’t know this guy was a preacher, you would think he was an actor. That maybe he should give up preaching and just go audition for a play. (Don’t get upset with me yet, please). We continued to watch, and made other comments about his preaching style, and staging. At the end of the program, his name was flashed across the screen. It was easy to remember his name because it is very similar to a good friend’s name. I made a mental note to do some internet research about this man. Now here is where it gets interesting. The man we were watching was Steve Munsey. He does have a website. After visiting his website, I do not feel bad about my comment, and in view of what I learned, it was rather “right on the money”. Mr. Munsey is the gentleman who wrote the Passion Play. The play that has been done in churches across America, and according to the website, is responsible for tens of thousands being saved. On his bio page there is this statement: “Steve Munsey has great faith in the ability of visual arts to minister to the body of Christ and the unsaved. All of this made me ponder this question: If people could only see my “actions”, and not hear what I was “saying”, what would they believe about me? What do my actions say about me as a person? And I came to realize the old saying “actions speak louder than words” is very true. Have a great day, and watch what you DO as well as what you SAY!

Passion! What a vivid word. The way we express ourselves reflect the amount of passion we have about the subject matter. I can only imagine that Jesus taught with great passion. How can we, as individual Christians expect to draw others to the cross if we have lost our own passion? I encourage you to find your passion for heaven - and to take as many people with you as you can. "Because He is -- so am I". This week I will focus on my actions reflecting Him. Thanks for the encouragement Cathy!. Have a great week - Caren.

''If I were not someone who has been saved and in the body of Christ for literally decades, mess like this might shake my faith. But I’m thankful I know not to put my trust in men, but the true Lord and savior Jesus Christ. The pimps are in the mist of a high season, but the reaping will come and when God causes them to reap the mess they’ve sown it’s not going to be pretty.

Steve’s web site notes that he is now a regular on TBN. Lord help your sheep to hear your voice and not that of the crooks.

Jesus performed many miracles that are recorded in the Bible, but none include him telling someone to make a donation “now” for monetary riches. It’s interesting how the focus and work of Jesus differs from the focus of people like Munsey. So don’t be a turkey. Beware, predators like Munsey claim the faith, but really want your wallet!''
This was a quote from a blog I looked up after reading yours.
SO...I agree there are alot of hooky so called preachers out there. We just need to be well aware of them. I'glad that Jesus will be the Judge of him and me.

What a strange post by Rodrigo? Guess there are spammers on blogs too? Anyway...I am just impressed that of all the T.V. options that your coworker was choosing to try and watch religious programming. I think your comments are so true. Most of us are not aware of our actions and I know I have had many times to repent that my tone of voice deterred from the message I was trying to make. John 13:34-35 says "Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other." Definitely not our words, but what we do with our lives. May we all find ways to show His love this week.
