Volunteers

I should have left for work 30 minutes ago. Lucky for me though, I don't have to punch a time clock. Truth be told, I'll probably spend a minimum of 12 hours there today. I am not complaining, I love it.

One of the things we talk about at Strauss is how to recruit and keep volunteers. Besides Bob, Dennis, Elana, Laura Michelle, Kyle, Joe and me, everyone else you see in the theater is a volunteer.   Lately, it has been difficult to find people who want to work crew. More and more of the tech (floor crew, fly rail, lights and sound) are being done by actors. Case in point is Streetcar. Most of the actors are also serving as the crew, and I believe it was the same in Oscar and Felix. I am at a loss, I don't know how to recruit crew. I have not done a good job. I think back to the time I first volunteered. We had a core group of "techies". There were 5 of us who would work almost every show. Strauss needs another core group of techies. I don't know how to find them. Those who stay usually do so because they love it. It's the friendships too. One of the things that kept me coming back were the people I met and the friendships I made.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved at Strauss, whether you were on stage, backstage or both. We would not have this venue if it were not for your love of theatre!

We have a community paper that advertises volunteer opportunities. Perhaps W. Monroe has one too? Also, perhaps if you have a community college you could call the drama dept. and students could get some kind of extra credit to help out?? Finally, you could post it on your website, except I could only find one for the children's theater?

Cathy... Your attitude and love for the theatre is one thing that makes coming to the Strauss so enjoyable. You are appreciated probably way more than you will ever know. So a big "Thank You" to you as well.

Ditto what Michael said. When I think of "can do" attitude at the Strauss, you're always first in my mind.
