Since I began employment at Strauss, I have been fired three times! Yes, three times in less than one year. The most recent being Monday. The first firing occurred when Bob Lewis (my boss) fell off a ladder and I laughed at his misfortune. I couldn't help it and because Bob is a no-nonsense guy, he fired me. Me, being the kind of person I am continued laughing. The second firing occured when we were working on the set for Baby. We were putting pipe in the bottom of the white scrim. This length of pipe has to be longer than the scrim, and in fact is almost as wide as the stage. Those who have been in a show that uses a scrim, know what I am talking about. The pipe was so long that it reached into the rehearsal hall and one end was resting on a set of steps maybe 3 feet off the ground. Anyway, there came a time when the pipe fell off the stairs, and as it did so, the other end (which Bob was tending to) flew up in the air and almost took his nose off. Well guess what? I commence to laughing and Bob fires me for the second time. Now to Monday. I am painting the Young Troupe office and as you know all the stuff on the walls has to come down. I was removing the fire extinguisher when Bob came in. I said to Bob "It is inexcusable to hang a fire extinguisher behind a door." Bob looks at me rather quizically and reports that I was there when HE hung the thing. I quickly attempted to redeem myself by reporting that when he hung it, the room
wasn't an office. "Oh yes it was" he says. Then he says "What I find inexcusable is that an employee lets the boss do something stupid and doesn't say anything". Well that was that, until staff meeting. Yes folks, you guessed it, after telling the story, he fired me in the presence of the other staff at Strauss!
Hope everyone has a great day, and be careful what you say if you are working directly with your boss!!
P.S. Bob told me that I don't have to worry about getting fired as long as he doesn't have a PINK SLIP in his hand. All in all I have to say that Bob Lewis is the funniest boss I have ever had. It's a blast working at the Strauss.
