Politics in America

I'm fed up. I have been fed up for a while, but really have no idea how to go about changing things. It's time for Americans to stand up and revolt. Change the way things are done in Washington. It doesn't matter who we elect as president, if the way laws are made and passed doesn't change, the president will make little or no impact. For example, the BAILOUT. Do you know how much stuff was added to that bill? I am sick of pork barrell politics. Maybe you know of this stuff, maybe you don't, but here's a glimpse of some of the PORK that was included in the bailout:

This allegedly critical financial rescue bill is loaded down with tax breaks (or more precisely, extensions of current tax breaks) for such emergencies as:

1. “Wooden arrows designed for use by children” This provision was put into the bill by Oregon Senators Smith and Wyden for the primary benefit of an Oregon arrow manufacturer…estimated to save arrow companies $200,000 annually.

2. “Motorsports racing track facilities” A Bloomberg article notes this “will save NASCAR track builders $109 million this year.”

3. Rum producers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands

4. Investors in the District of Columbia or on Indian reservations.

5. Building and renovating restaurants

6. Book donations to public schools

7. Recipients of settlement payments from Exxon Valdez litigation

WHAT! What do tax breaks have to do with the financial crisis? Why was this stuff even allowed to be put in the bill? Oh, by the way, there is way more than those items listed above. To read a more complete article, go to:

On election day, I AM NOT going to vote for any incumbent senator or house member. It's the only thing I know I can do. I encourage you to do the same. Get those pork barrell loving folks out of there. It's time for us to stand up and let our voices be heard!

The good news is we're starting to wake up from our slumber. That bunch in Washington (Dems and Reps) better wake up and smell the coffee...there's a storm a brewin'.
